1886 School House Doors by D Hackett
The town schoolhouse was built in 1886. The building has many of the emblishments of a prosperous community on Amelia Island . The structure is in a National Historic District that is on the National Register of Historic Places. Several businesses are housed in the structure.
A well known Amelia Island ghost tale is of the reappearance of a dead construction worker at the Old School House built in 1886 by R. S. Schuyler and located at 914 Atlantic Avenue in Fernandina Beach.
A man fell to his death there during construction. Before he died, its said he crawled to a window and put his bloody hands there. The story goes that years later the ghost appeared, crawling across the school house floor, much to the horror of school children. The ghost then reached up to the window. Reportedly, bloody fingerprints can still be found on the walls.
