I went to Crystal River and swam with the Manatees for these beautiful images. The underwater adventure was amazing and the sea cows are really big, but so graceful underwater. Since they are mammals they do have to come up for air and they stay in warmer waters; rivers, springs, canals and estuaries, during the cooler months. Being in the water with these wild animals is amazing.
The trip is highly regulated by State and Federal Agencies to keep these amazing creatures from being harmed or harassed. You are not allowed to approach within a body length of the animal. If the animal decides to approach you then you must remain still and only then are you allowed to touch it with one hand. There are strict fines for even touching a Manatee with both hands.
