Description
Oreos In The Field by D Hackett
Belted Galloway herds in the United States and Canada date back to an importation from Scotland in 1948. Common nicknames for these cattle are ‘Belties’ or even ‘Oreo Cows’ due to their peculiar resemblance to the popular treat!
Beltied Galloway are members of the Galloway family of beef cattle, probably the oldest breed in the world today, which originated in the mountainous areas of southwestern Scotland. Belted Galloways have been bred to thrive on low-quality pastures in upland areas of Scotland, meaning that they can adapt to whatever level of foraging is available to them.
This herd of ‘Belties’ was found in rural Marion County, Florida.
