Description
Field Of Yellow Wildflowers by D Hackett
Late spring in Florida is time for the bright yellow Coreopsis Wildflowers. They grow along the roadside and in fields. These flowers are in a field next to my parents home in rural Florida.
The yellow Coreopsis leavenworthii is Florida's official wildflower.
This sunny-faced bloomer produces abundant 1-inch yellow blooms with chocolate centers. As with most natives, it attracts butterflies, requires low maintenance and gives garden beds an informal, natural look.
It's easy to grow from seed (there are more than 100 varieties) and great for cut-flower bouquets. Plants reseed yearly, lasting several seasons.
Coreopsis is an annual, but happily blooms all year in South Florida. It thrives in moist soil (not wet) in sunny spots.
